Airport & Rail Travel
Visit our Student Life page to find out what you need to bring with you.
We recommend that you fly to Manchester Airport as it is closer to us and the train ride to York is relatively easy. We also recommend that all train tickets be purchased as soon as possible as this is the cheapest way. Train tickets can be purchased here.
Manchester airport (about 2 hours to York).
There is a train station within the airport complex that has a direct service to York (TransPennine Route). Services to Newcastle, Middlesborough and Scarborough all call at York. A return rail ticket is approximately £28 if purchased in advance.
London Heathrow airport (about 4 hours to York).
Take the underground train (Piccadilly Line) to London King’s Cross station. Change trains to York (East Coast main line) at the King’s Cross station. A ticket for the underground train from the airport to King’s Cross is about £4.50. You will also need to buy a single rail ticket from King’s Cross to York. If you buy this on the day of travel it will cost from £50, however if you purchase in advance the cost can be cheaper but these will not be transferable (i.e. if you miss that train you will need to buy another ticket).
London Gatwick airport (about 4 hours to York).
Take the train to London Victoria Station. Change to the underground train (Victoria line) to London King’s Cross station. Take the train from King’s Cross to York (East Coast main line). A return ticket may be purchased for this journey, Gatwick through to York for £65.00, if purchased in advance.

Early Arrival Accommodation in York
Students should arrange their travel to arrive at earliest on the Friday before semester begins (check our semester dates to confirm).
Once You Arrive at York Rail Station
On arrival at the College there will be someone at the office who will tell you which flat you have been allocated to, or there will be a note on the window telling you where to go if you arrive late at night.
Taxi. When you arrive at York railway station, please proceed through the main doors and you will find a covered section with two road lanes. The nearest lane is a taxi lane. Turn left and you will find the taxi queue (waiting line). A taxi costs around £6 (cash only) and you need to ask for 6 Barbican Road, York. The campus accommodation looks like terraced houses.
If you have any problems at all, please telephone us on 01904 733 888. Remember if you are calling from abroad there is a time zone difference. We divert the outside office hours calls to another number so we are always available for you.
